This morning, as I was working to prepare my friend, Melissa Teague’s excellent article on emotional and spiritual healing for publication, Spirit gave me this incredible gift of musical medicine:
Bliss ~ Sirgun Kaur & Sat Darshan Singh ~ I am the light of my soul
Snatam Kaur is an American-born citizen of the world who uses her powerful musical gifts to teach and heal people of all faith backgrounds. In this beautiful song, Snatam is joined by Sat Darshan Singh, a Kundalini Yoga teacher and musician “who has spent his entire life surrounded by the Aquarian Sadhana.”
The duet that these two brilliant teachers and healers have created in “Bliss – I Am The Light of My Soul,” has the power to crack open the most stubborn, hard places in our hearts and opens us up to God’s pure healing light.
“Bliss (I am the Light of My Soul)” combines English with Gurbani, as Sirgun sings the English mantra “I am the Light of My Soul” and Sat Darshan breaks in with Anand Sahib. The layering of the many voices, and the layering of the languages of English and Gurbani are so sweet and lovely.”
Of course, being the research junkie that I am, I had to go track down the words that Sat Darshan is singing, and I discovered the Sacred Prayer of Sikhs: The Anand Sahib.
From Wiki: “Below are the first 5 and the 40th (last) Shabads of the Anand Sahib: (This is NOT the complete Anand Sahib which consists of 40 Shabads in total!”
ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਅਨੰਦ
raamkalee mehlaa 3 anand
Raamkalee, Third Mehl, Anand ~ The Song Of Bliss:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਅਨੰਦ ਭਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਝ ਸਤਿਗਰੂ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
anand bha-i-aa mayree maa-ay satguroo mai paa-i-aa.
I am in ecstasy, O my mother, for I have found my True Guru.
ਸਤਿਗਰ ਤ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਜੀਆ ਵਾਧਾਈਆ ॥
satgur ta paa-i-aa sahj saytee man vajee-aa vaaDhaa-ee-aa.
I have found the True Guru, with intuitive ease, and my mind vibrates with the music of bliss.
Pure are the listeners, and pure are the speakers; the True Guru is all-pervading and permeating.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਤੂਰੇ ॥੪੦॥੧॥
binvant naanak gur charan laagay vaajay anhad tooray. ((40)(1))
Prays Nanak, touching the Guru’s Feet, the unstruck sound current of the celestial bugles vibrates and resounds. ((40)(1))
I really enjoyed reading the words of the Anand Sahib while Sat Darshan was chanting along with Snatam Kaur. The sound of their voices raised in praise in two different languages is sublime and deeply healing.
I hope you love this medicine as much as I do.
Thank you for reading.
