This week is a Bear Medicine week in the year of the great mother bear. This time is about balancing the masculine with the feminine, so Bear is sitting with the Grandfathers in their home in the Northwest this week.
Joining this cast of characters are: Alligator (Kek) Turkey Badger Salmon . . . along with Medicine Cards from a few other traditions.
This week, Elk (stamina, gentleness, silence) is leading us from the Northern place of the Grandfathers. Joining him this week are Raven (transformation), Squirrel (organization, focus), Owl (wisdom, strategy). These four are supported by the energy of the Great Mother Bear, (healing, protection) Hawk (truth, perception) and Wolf (leadership, solitude, humility).
We are blessed with this gift of time and given many choices throughout each day. Start the day in prayer and connecting with the Great Spirit and the Ancestors – and they will help you through each day with love and kindness for yourself and for others. When we start our day connected to God, we’re better able to think right thoughts. And it is our thoughts and perceptions that change the world.
In the Bird Clan, Eagle is the keeper of the Northern Door of the Medicine Wheel – the White House which represents Spirit. And this is where the Grandfathers live. When we enter into prayer every day, it helps us remember our relatives in all four directions – beginning with those in the North who are suffering from food insecurity and pollution of our natural water supply.
Truth is the only antidote for the ailments of the world, for our families and for each of us as individuals, and Eagle is the totem of truth. The sacred bird of the Cherokee and other Indigenous nations – and people around the world – who recognize the powerful, ancient role of Eagle as the messenger of the Great Spirit.
